Organize with categories and locations
Categories group what things are; locations remember where they live.
iTems gives you two ways to organize an Assets collection, and they answer different questions.
Categories — what it is
Categories are folders you create yourself: Electronics, Tools, Kitchen. Every category shows its item count in the collection menu. The free plan currently includes three categories per collection; iTems Pro removes the limit.
Locations — where it is
Locations are named places: Living room, Attic, Storage unit. Assign a location on the item and you will always know where to look. Locations are a simple list — there is no nesting, so keep names specific (“Garage — top shelf” works well).
No tags?
iTems does not have free-form tags. Between categories, locations and custom fields you can usually model what a tag would have said — a custom yes/no field like “Lent out” often does the job better.
