Add items to a collection

Four ways to get belongings into iTems: type them in, photograph them, scan a receipt, or let Bulk Capture register a whole shelf.

Getting startedItems & organizing

In an Assets collection, the add button gives you four ways in. Use whichever fits the moment — they all end up as regular items you can edit.

The four ways

  • Add Item — create an item by hand and fill in the details yourself. Best when you want full control.

  • Camera — photograph the thing in front of you and build the item from the photo.

  • Scan Receipt — photograph a receipt and iTems reads it, creates an item for each product on it, and attaches the receipt as a PDF.

  • Bulk Capture — photograph a drawer, shelf or room and iTems finds the individual items for you to review. Requires iTems Pro and a signed-in account.

There is no barcode scanner in iTems — recognition is done from photos and receipts instead, so it also works for things that never had a barcode.

Add an item manually

  1. Tap Add Item

A new item opens in the editor.

  2. Give it a title and type

Regular item covers most things; Antique, Vehicle and Real estate add their own detail cards.

  3. Add photos and details

Attach photos, purchase details (store, date, price, serial number), warranty and notes as you like — everything is optional.

  4. Choose category and location

File the item into a category and a location so you can find it again.
